User Points

Points and medals for being active on the platform

The User Points plugin scores how active a user is and lets you display that as points and medals on their profile. It's pure gamification — there is no store, no way to spend points on anything. After installing it, you'll find it under Users → User Points (Badges and Setting).

How points are earned

Every earning rule has an admin-configurable point value (0–200) — nothing here is hardcoded to a fixed amount. A background job periodically totals up qualifying activity since the last time it checked each user, multiplies by that rule's point value, and adds it to their running total.

Rules available regardless of what you sell:

  • General platform activity (API requests)
  • Files uploaded, blog posts written
  • Transactions — deposits, commissions, sales, purchases
  • Subscription purchases
  • Payments approved — both a flat per-payment amount and a rate multiplied by how much was actually spent
  • Likes given, follows/subscribes to other users
  • Playlists created and items added to them
  • Followers gained
  • Streams and downloads — both a raw count and a de-duplicated "unique listener" count

Rules that only apply with the Music plugin installed:

  • Tracks and albums uploaded
  • Streams on the user's own uploaded tracks — again both raw and unique-listener counts
  • Playlist-adds of the user's own tracks

Medals and badges

Badges are a normal admin-managed object, not a fixed built-in set — create as many as you want, each with its own name, description, icon (a stock icon or your own uploaded image), colour and display priority.

A badge can be assigned two ways, and both can apply to the same badge at once:

  • Manually — an admin attaches a specific badge to a specific user directly.
  • Automatically — a badge can define its own award conditions: by user role, by account age in years, or by a greater/less-than threshold on any numeric stat the user profile tracks (points among them, but also follower counts and anything else exposed the same way) — so a badge tied to a stat a future plugin adds would work without this plugin needing an update.

Settings

SettingWhat it controls
Badges — real-time queryOn: badges are recalculated live on every profile view (accurate, but genuinely expensive — meant for testing, not left on). Off (default): badges only update when the background job runs.
Badges — display limitHow many badges show next to a username at once (1–15)
Cronjob execution intervalHow often the background job is even eligible to run, in hours (default ~3 days)
Per-action point valuesOne field per earning rule, grouped by category — General, Transactions, Payments, Properties, Blog, and Music (if installed)

Where this shows up

  • An "Earned points: N" line on a user's public profile, shown only once they've passed 10 points.
  • Small badge icons next to a username wherever one appears, up to the display-limit setting.
  • A badge detail popup when someone clicks a user's badge cluster, listing each badge's icon, name and description.
  • There's no public leaderboard — points and badges are shown per-user, not ranked against everyone else.

Data and limitations

  • Only a running total is kept — there's no earning history log, so you can't see after the fact exactly which actions built up someone's current score.
  • Because scoring only ever looks forward from a user's last check, changing a rule's point value doesn't retroactively re-score past activity — it only affects points earned from that point on.
  • The background job processes a batch of the least-recently-checked users each run rather than everyone at once, so on a large user base it can take more than one run before every user's score is fully current.

Points for other content types

The generic scoring and badge rules are based on shared platform activity. Music adds rules for tracks, albums, streams, and playlists when that plugin is installed. Other catalogue types do not currently have equivalent point rules; check the available rules in your User Points settings before planning a reward scheme.
